Pretty weird to think 9/11 happened 13 years ago today. I find the day so somber as I not only remember what happened to Americans here and the sacrifice of service men and women, but also all of the lives lost around the world due to acts of terror. My prayers go out to the families of victims in terrorist attacks from Stonycreek, Pennsylvania to Fallujah, Iraq.
The information booth was almost painfully slow today. There was a 1:12 stretch during the afternoon when the rain was moving in where we didn't receive a single phone call. Since all three of us were working, one person at a time rotated out of the booth to do errands. My mission was to take the shuttle up to the shuttle and Park Service information booth in Bar Harbor to pick up shuttle timetables and brochures on the Acadia Night Sky festival in two weeks. If not for getting out of the booth for about an hour, I'm not sure if I would've survived.
We closed down at 5:00 tonight instead of the usual 6:00 time. We had our info booth team dinner. Edie is on her way down to Massachusetts today so she couldn't join Jami, Sarah, and I. We thought it'd be funny to make the reservation for Tom Hanks, Martha Stewart, and Jennifer Aniston. It did turn out funny because several people on the JPH team were keeping an eye out for them.
In the kitchen, Chef Brian created some original appetizers for us like a flat bread pizza thing and seared scallops with fruit stuff. As you can tell I'm not a knowledgeable food guy. I do know, however, that they tasted great.
All three of us ordered the dinner special which included a cup of seafood chowder, a popover, an entree (I had the steak), and a dessert. We also tried some of the local beers on tap and had a crab cake appetizer. In total, I bet I consumed well over 1,000 calories in one sitting. It was awesome...but I had the toughest time falling asleep since my belly was in overdrive.
