Happy Monday/Labor Day/September!
Today was awesome!
Despite the calendar saying it was Labor Day, the crowds at the Jordan Pond House said it is the first day of the fall tourist season. We had under 200 advanced reservations and the most anyone had to wait for a table today was only 15 minutes. By comparison, most days in August had at least 400 reservations and minimum waitlist times of 35 minutes for inside tables and 45 for outside.
Around 1:30 a lady told us about a barking dog locked in a car in the North Parking Lot. I went over to assess the situation and see if calling the rangers was necessary. It turns out that it was since the car was parked in the sun. The windows were cracked, but because of the lack of wind and the humidity today (the dew point was 72 most of the day), Edie and I decided to give them a call.
While I was checking on the dog, I noticed that there were at least 12-15 spots available in the lot and people consistently turning over occupied spots. I walked back to the info booth feeling great because I knew that everyone who came to the JPH or to hike or bike around Jordan Pond had an opportunity to park. That hasn't been the case most days up to this point in the summer.
When I closed up the booth at 6:00 this evening, the number of reservations for tomorrow was in the low 40s. It should be another slow day tomorrow. Woo who!
I took advantage of the slow work flow today to do some internet research on seminaries to apply for. I signed up for information from the Duke School of Divinity for their Masters of Divinity program. No other place caught my eye. I'm shying away from graduate school programs that wouldn't allow me to seek ordination as a pastor once I finish. Not sure if I will go down that route in the end, but I have a feeling that I shouldn't close that door at this point. I'll look some more tomorrow.
This evening I had some dinner and then decided to read a bit. The experience made me feel like I was back in college. After a few pages, I fell asleep. I woke up about 40 minutes later still feeling a little groggy. I haven't been sleeping really well lately. I think my allergies are acting up or I have some sort of late-summer bug. At any rate, I'll be back in bed soon.
